BARRETT
HONORS COLLEGE
About The College
The Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University
is a selective, small undergraduate college responsible
for recruiting academically outstanding undergraduates
to ASU and organizing the resources of that major research
university for their benefit. Together, the college and
university provide these students with a small, intellectually
and socially vibrant environment within the context of
a university actively engaged in exploring all areas of
human interest and concern. The college's students simultaneously
benefit from being with others of the same intellectual
preparation and commitments but different talents and
interests at a university that can meet their changing
needs as they develop academically and socially.
All students who enter ASU through the Barrett Honors
College also enroll in a disciplinary college and pursue
one or more of the 255 available disciplinary majors and
concentrations. Their education is the result of the collaborative
efforts of the college's directly appointed faculty and
of faculty appointed by the disciplinary units.
The college is formally responsible for determining the
criteria for admission, for honors course work, and for
graduation through the college on all of ASU's campuses.
The Barrett Honors College's location houses its entire
operation: classrooms, computer site, faculty, staff and
administrative offices, an advising center, student residences,
and Charlie's Cafe. The eight Barrett Honors College residence
halls in Center Complex offer students an opportunity
to be part of a living and learning community modeled
after the British universities. The community serves as
the center of academic and co-curricular activities for
all honors students.
